The number of childcare providers in Leelanau County was declining, so LECDC set a goal to expand the childcare options in the county. In 2021, they received a grant from the Early Childhood Investment Corporation, a private non-profit organization, to assist new providers in meeting state licensing regulations to open their businesses.
Each enrollee in the Infant & Toddler Childcare Start-Up was provided a personal coach to navigate the childcare application process, participated in a 4-part business and financial training series, and received support for licensing, safety requirements, teaching resources and equipment.
By 2024, three new childcare providers had opened their doors to Leelanau County families and youngsters.
The video below highlights how the Infant & Toddler Childcare Start-Up grant worked.
